Empty packaging

Packaging and packaging waste EU directive

Directive 2004/12/EC of February 2004 makes it obligatory for EU member states to ensure that at least 50% of all packaging be recovered.

The directive has been implemented in the Netherlands in the Paper and Cardboard Packaging (Management) Decree. This Decree that implements full producer responsibility for packaging means that producers and importers who put those packaged products on the Dutch market are individually responsible for the prevention, collection and recycling of the used packaging material (seewww.vrom.nl or www.wetten.nl)

Accepting empty packaging has become ever more important in part due to the abovementioned Decree. Companies are financially responsible for the separate collection and recycling of their own packaging waste. Often returnable deposits are levied to ensure that customers actually exchange packaging.

This collection of empty packaging is a large logistics operation. This, after all, does not simply involve the physical transportation of the material but also correct administrative processing.

Van den Anker specialises in the organisation of the (very) different ways of collecting empty packaging and can offer very efficient solutions due to its closely linked network.

We can sort empty packaging with regard to large return flows at our central depot; we can sort it based on packaging type and/or destination. Often, several empty packaging items (such as IBCs and drums) are brought back on a daily basis to the customer so that they can be reused after cleaning/flushing. We often store single empty packaging items (such as, for example, drums and cans) for a short period so that they can be transported directly to a waste processor using full cargoes.

Naturally, the administrative processing of the empty packaging is taken care of completely.

Would you like that Van den Anker also arranges the flushing? We also offer options to cover this.
